Leicester City are set for a cash injection in the final fortnight of the window. Former striker George Hirst, 27, is closing in on a £10m move from Ipswich to Stoke City, and is expected to drop down to the Championship.

LeicesterMercury.co.uk understands City inserted a sell-on clause in the 2023 deal that took Hirst to Ipswich, meaning they will profit from his sale to Stoke, although the percentage has not been disclosed.

Hirst left after Leicester’s relegation and joined Ipswich permanently following a short loan. He initially signed from OH Leuven in 2020, then had spells at Rotherham United, Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.

The Scotland international has twice celebrated promotion to the Premier League with Ipswich, having earlier helped them out of League One. He scored 11 goals last season for the Tractor Boys.

Ipswich paid only one million pounds for him and now look set for a significant profit. Including sell-on clauses when moving on young players is common practice at Leicester, with Jeremy Monga’s transfer to Manchester City also containing one.
