He is one of three loanees who have told the Cambridgeshire outfit they wish to return to their parent clubs.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, United’s director of football Barry Fry said: “We had a conversation with all of them about coming back in some way next season, but for now they all wanted to return to their former clubs and have a go at getting a game for them.

“Good luck to them. They were all good for us and maybe we will look again if things don’t work out as they expect.”

Knight, who can operate in both defence and midfield, took to Twitter to say goodbye to the Posh.

His one senior appearance for Leicester came as a substitute in a League Cup win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in August 2017.
