Leicester City are a player light a third into January, with Julian Carranza gone and a move for free agent Michail Antonio scrapped after the striker was injured in training. Marti Cifuentes says his squad needs numbers.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the ideal window features three exits and four additions. With commitment prioritised, Harry Winks has been absent since early December and Wout Faes is out of contention, so sales would suit all parties.

A striker remains essential. Recent goals from Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka have not masked an overall lack of threat. A loan suits the budget, with Joel Piroe or Chelsea teenager Shim Mheuka among options.

With Aaron Ramsey sidelined, only Bobby De Cordova-Reid is an out-and-out number 10. Manchester United’s Jack Fletcher might be available, while Manchester City’s Divine Mukasa, prolific at youth level, could be considered.

Cifuentes is content with Oliver Skipp and Boubakary Soumare deeper, and Jordan James with Louis Page box-to-box. Soumare’s future is uncertain with Monaco circling, so selling now and borrowing Sunderland’s Dan Neil could plug the gap, with Sammy Braybrooke stepping up in summer.

Loans are unlimited if registered in the 25-man list, with up to five on a matchday. To add a left-back too, City could make James permanent from Rennes, then loan Manchester United’s Harry Amass or try to hijack Bournemouth’s Julio Soler from Watford’s sights.

Abdul Fatawu should not be sold this month unless funds are desperately needed and a £35m or higher bid lands. He remains central to any late play-off push.
