Hours after Flamengo dismissed Filipe Luís, Leila Pereira, the Palmeiras president, moved to explain a viral photo in which she said club staff enjoyed "tranquilidade" in day-to-day work. She sought to head off any row with Flamengo.

"Yesterday I made a very interesting post, but it was not a dig at anyone. I try to convey calm to athletes and professionals. Of course football has a lot of pressure, there are demands when necessary, but always with respect," she told TNT Sports.

"In that moment, in the photograph I took, I was sitting in a wonderful place at the Academia de Futebol and I simply showed my feeling. It is the awareness of duty done, I do the utmost for my athletes, I invest."

Filipe Luís was relieved of his duties in the early hours of Tuesday, 03, after Flamengo’s thrashing of Madureira. The decision caught many by surprise.

He did not manage to say goodbye to the players after the match because they had already left the Maracanã. He went to Ninho do Urubu on Tuesday afternoon to embrace the squad and club staff.

Leonardo Jardim was confirmed as Flamengo head coach on Wednesday night, 04. His unveiling is on Thursday, 05, and his debut is planned for Sunday, 08, in the Carioca final against Fluminense at 18:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
