Leila Pereira says Palmeiras remain in contact with Botafogo over Danilo, insisting the club’s interest in the midfielder continues.
According to Globo.com, football director Anderson Barros is speaking regularly with Botafogo and Danilo’s camp. Palmeiras have so far made one bid, around R$ 120 million, which included defender Naves.
Leila believes a deal could happen and says the player wants to return home to join Palmeiras, though it also depends on Botafogo. She spoke after a club tribute to Abel Ferreira.
She reiterated that first-choice players are not for sale. Those with heavy minutes in the first half of the year should stay, a stance that could complicate the club’s sales goals.
Palmeiras budgeted R$ 399.6 million from player sales this season and have brought in about R$ 130 million. Naves, initially part of the Danilo talks, is close to joining Necaxa in Mexico.
Leila said she must be creative to balance the books, preferring not to sell anyone while keeping the team strong. She added that titles are not won by offloading key players and that she will find solutions.
On contracts, Gustavo Gómez is tied to 2027 and is close to extending, with Barros to lead talks. Abel Ferreira’s future will be addressed next year after Palmeiras’ elections.
So far there has been one mid-year signing, Alexander Barboza. The Libertadores-winning centre-back with Botafogo was presented on Thursday at the Academia de Futebol.
