Palmeiras president Leila Pereira wants to extend Gustavo Gómez’s contract and says any decision on Abel will be left to her successor.
According to Globo.com, as the club finalises its squad and negotiates the signing of Danilo from Botafogo for 2026, Pereira said she has met Gómez but director Anderson Barros will lead talks. She described the situation as calm and said the club want what is best for all parties.
Gómez, the most decorated player in the club’s history with 13 titles, last renewed early last year. His current deal runs until December 2027.
Abel Ferreira said before the 2025 Libertadores final that he would stay, then signed an extension in December to the end of 2027. Pereira added she will not pursue another renewal during her mandate, which also ends in December 2027. Succession will be addressed next year, with the next president to handle any talks.
On Friday, Ferreira was honoured by Palmeiras for becoming the coach with the most titles in the club’s history. He said he still dreams of winning another Libertadores.
