Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have this afternoon announced the departure of Senegal international defender Abdou Diallo, who had been with the club on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain which included a permanent clause.

The former Borussia Dortmund man’s return to Germany will not have gone entirely to plan – a knee injury keeping him sidelined for three months from the turn of the year and limiting his playing time to just 15 games in all competitions. The 27-year-old nevertheless leaves eastern Germany as a domestic cup winner, at the end of a season which notably saw him take part in Senegal’s World Cup campaign as well.

Diallo, who has been with PSG since 2019, remains under contract with the Ligue 1 champions until the end of next season. Having only made 12 appearances in his previous season in the French capital, it remains to be seen whether he will be brought back into the fold in Paris, or moved on again.
