Lelê on Corinthians-Palmeiras draw, targets group stage top spot

On the evening of this Monday (10), Corinthians went to Arena Barueri to face Palmeiras in a derby valid for the 12th round of the first phase of the Women’s Paulista Championship and ended up drawing with no goals. Goalkeeper Lelê spoke about the difficulty of the match and asked the team to remain calm when finishing.

“Actually, we had three clear chances, and if we had been a little more careful, known how to take advantage. In a derby like this, which is very tough, you’re creating chances because of the quality of the team on the other side, I think it’s really about that, knowing how to take advantage of opportunities, because it’s going to be a game where we’ll make mistakes, because we’re trying, we’re playing against a great team, but it’s about having a little more calm up front to be able to make the most of these opportunities,” the goalkeeper began in the mixed zone.

With Nicole’s injury, Lelê has returned to getting minutes under Lucas Piccinato’s command. She spoke about the conversations among the goalkeepers in the squad to help each other in daily training.

“I think we already help each other a lot day to day, the whole year together, every day, we’re lucky to be able to work a little separately, in a slightly smaller group, so I think all three of us are used to playing derbies, and I think it’s more a matter of details, but we help each other much more in the day to day than just when it comes to the game itself,” she commented.

Lelê is known for her temperament on the field, always talking to the outfield players and asking for attention during the opponent’s attacking plays.

“I think I complain the whole game, regardless of the situation I’ll be complaining, to keep the team alert, we made mistakes because we took a lot of risks, it was something we trained during the week, it’s something we’re maturing even more, to come back, play out well, have the personality to take risks, I think that’s going to happen, and we know how to recover, we’ll suffer attacks, but we organize ourselves well to try again later,” the goalkeeper emphasized.

The result kept the team at the top of the state championship with 31 points (10 wins, one draw, and one loss – 29 goals scored and six conceded). However, the Brabas have not yet secured first place, which gives home advantage in possible semifinals and finals of the competition.

“I think we need to make the most of these two games to prepare for the final phase of the Paulista, and I think that’s what matters most now, so we can reach the Paulista final, God willing, and be able to play at home,” Lelê concluded.

After facing Palmeiras away in the Women’s Paulista Championship, the Alvinegro remains focused on the state competition. Next Thursday (13), at 6:00 pm (Brasília time), the Brabas will face Ferroviária at Arena Fonte Luminosa, for the 13th and penultimate round of the tournament.
