RC Lens were left bitter after the LFP board voted on Thursday to postpone their home match with PSG, originally set for 11 April, to 13 May. The decision ran counter to the club’s firm opposition.

The club said in a statement that it had taken note of the unanimous decision while disagreeing with it, and that it remained determined to pursue its sporting objectives. President-owner Joseph Oughourlian and chief executive Benjamin Parrot spoke by video during the meeting, but their plea did not change the outcome.

Lens had hoped to sway some votes by arguing for competitive fairness, pointing to PSG’s eased schedule versus their own becoming heavier, yet the ballot was unanimous. Oughourlian later posted a wry line on LinkedIn invoking La Fontaine, suggesting the strongest side tends to prevail.

The club considered an appeal to the CNOSF conciliators with its advisers, then chose not to proceed, aiming to remain dignified and to avoid a draining, uncertain process.

Ticket demand for the 11 April fixture had surged. Supporters who secured seats can either retain them for 13 May or request a full refund.

Lens also have the option to bring forward their 33rd-round match against Nantes from Saturday 9 May to Friday 8, if PSG reach the Champions League semi-finals.

In Artois, indignation has given way to frustration, but the club are intent on protecting their momentum. Plans are being drawn up for the two weeks without a game after the Lille derby on 4 April, and an internal boycott of the rearranged match has not been considered.
