After thrashing Paris FC 5-0 on Saturday, RC Lens took advantage of Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 defeat at Stade Rennais on Friday to retake the lead in Ligue 1. But with 12 games left to play, Pierre Sage, the Sang et Or coach, does not want to think about a hypothetical championship title.
“This title isn’t on my mind. We’re focusing on the points first, and right now, we’ve achieved our goal,” said the French tactician after his team’s 17th win of the season. “Next, we’ll think about the Conference League. The Champions League requires at least three wins, if not more. We’re thinking more about Olympique de Marseille or Olympique Lyonnais than PSG.”
League leaders Lens are one point ahead of second-placed PSG and provisionally 10 clear of Lyon, third in the standings, who face OGC Nice on Sunday evening. Marseille, in fourth place, are 12 points off the pace.
