Teenage defender has become a mainstay in Ruben Amorim’s defence

The French defender was a wanted man in the summer of 2024, when he decided to join Erik ten Hag’s side for an initial £52million.

Since then, the 19-year-old has become a near-permanent fixture in Ruben Amorim’s side, having struggled with injury in his first term at Old Trafford.

The former Lille centre-back has featured in all 10 of United’s Premier League games so far, starting seven.

The Red Devils take on Tottenham in a crucial game on Saturday lunchtime, in what feels like make or break for both managers - Amorim and Thomas Frank.

United were pipped to the Champions League by Spurs in the Europa League final last season, with Brennan Johnson’s winner nicking the trophy for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Amorim’s team, however, are without European football after their 15th-placed finish last season, and they are already out of the Carabao Cup after a shock penalty defeat by League Two Grimsby.

However, despite having a swathe of clubs interested in him - including Real Madrid - Yoro is adamant that he made the right choice with United.

“It was not just Madrid or United,” he said.

“Even with last season, I never had this feeling of regret.

“I know Manchester United, I know sometimes you can have a bad season, but this club is a top club, so you cannot have doubts about this. I knew the project of the club before I came.

“Of course I cannot expect the first year to finish in 15th position. These are some things you need to face also. But you have the director of the club, the coach, all the players, they are here to push you every day. You have confidence in this club. You need to put your heads up every day and try to do your best.

“Today my choice is Manchester, so I’m really happy with this. I know some people talked about this last year because of the results. I can understand them, but honestly, it’s my choice, my career.”
