Léo Jardim saved two penalties as Vasco overcame Fluminense in a shootout to reach the final against Corinthians.
According to Globo.com, the goalkeeper credited work and concentration, said it had been a dream to reach the final, and added they would rest, celebrate and aim to win the title.
It was the club's sixth consecutive victory in shootouts, all with Jardim in goal. Since his arrival he has saved nine of 38 in those, close to 25%.
Including penalties taken in regulation as well as shootouts, he has 12 saves from 55, a rate above 20%.
Defeat in normal time was Vasco's eighth in their last 10 matches after a turbulent end to the Brazilian league campaign. Jardim said recent criticism was understandable, that the team must respond on the pitch, and he praised supporters for filling the stadium.
