Leo Messi has been named MVP and Jordi Alba Defensive Player as Inter Miami unveiled its 2025 club awards. According to Inter Miami, the captain and the Spanish left back were recognised after a historic campaign.
Messi became the first player to win MLS MVP in consecutive seasons. He led the league with 29 goals and 48 goal contributions to take the 2025 Golden Boot. His 48, from 29 goals and 19 assists in 28 matches, are the second-most in a single MLS season and included at least three in nine games, a record.
He is also the only player with 36 or more contributions in multiple seasons, 2024 and 2025. He became just the second to lead MLS for both goals and assists in one year, alongside Sebastian Giovinco in 2015. Beyond league play, Messi added 11 more contributions, eight goals and three assists, across all competitions.
Alba claimed Defensive Player of the Year in his final professional season after helping the team lift its first MLS Cup. Inter Miami also advanced to the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals and recorded a landmark FIFA Club World Cup win over UEFA opposition, FC Porto, the first by a Concacaf club in an official competition.
Alba ended with 31 goal contributions, eight goals and 23 assists, from 52 appearances, the most productive attacking season of his career. He earned four MLS Team of the Matchday selections, tying Tadeo Allende for second-most this season, behind Messi’s 12.
