Leo Messi could be linked to an investor group preparing a move for Eldense, with Andrés Iniesta also named, in a potential ownership change that could reshape the club.
According to Elche en Punta on TeleElx and Radio Marca Elche, Messi is linked to a consortium targeting Eldense, with Iniesta among several former Barcelona players and significant Argentine capital involved.
Any involvement would be from the boardroom, not the pitch. The group has worked for months on an acquisition that could be unveiled once final formalities are complete.
The current ownership, the Colombian-led group headed by Carolina Holguín, may be nearing the end of its tenure. Officially, sporting director Víctor Lafuente has cooled talk of imminence, saying there is no confirmed update for now.
An announcement could come in the coming days, if procedures are resolved. The participation of Messi and Iniesta would lift the club’s institutional and commercial profile.
The plan is also said to include other ex-Barcelona players and strong Argentine backing, which, if completed, would give Eldense rare international reach.
There is flux on the sporting side too. Claudio Barragán has been dismissed, Asier Garitano was approached but is thought to have declined, and Eder Sarabia, seen on Monday at the Martínez Valero for Elche v Real Sociedad, is another candidate.
The coming days could redefine Eldense’s direction, with the most significant change likely to be in the ownership rather than the dugout.
