Leon Balogun takes no prisoners as he slaughters Rangers

We have deliberately held off from any post-match reaction from Rangers’ latest dismal preseason shambles, this time a feeble loss to League One side Birmingham, because we wanted to digest what we’re actually seeing.

And more to the point, highlight the fact Leon Balogun hasn’t been told by a single Rangers fan to ‘support the team ffs’ despite the big defender absolutely slaughtering the side last night and saying just about everything Ibrox Noise and other bold supporters have said this preseason.

The ex-Werder man was in no mood to mince words as he trashed the team, by no means excluding himself from criticism, in harsh words which were as accurate as they were fair, and they highlighted how poor the side has been while Balogun emphasised that the team only has 10 days till the season starts.

Anyone who makes the argument that ‘it’s only preseason ffs’ (and believe us, many do) completely trivialises the relevance of an important time for bonding and development.

And with all due respect, we’d rather listen to Leon Balogun who slaughtered the side in a ‘meaningless friendly’ than wee Rab on fb who just yells ‘support the side ffs’ and spews buckie on the pavement.

He knows what he’s on about Balogun, he gets it, and it’s a crying shame that so many Rangers fans just vent ‘WATP’ or ‘get behind the team’ to other fans saying the same stuff big Leon did.

He quintessentially understands second place is last for Rangers, and he effectively said that in his interview – it’s a pity so many Rangers supporters these days don’t understand that any more.

And what we’re seeing in this preseason is probably the most pitiful preseason in Rangers’ history. One closed-door draw is all we have to boast about – the rest has been disjointed unmitigated trash save for a slight ‘uplift’ here and there.

We cannot remember a preseason this weak, with such a despondent vibe among the honest Rangers fans whose optimism going into the season is among the lowest we can ever remember.

This is a very, very poor period from Rangers.
