Flamengo’s 2-1 win over Fluminense closed the gap on Palmeiras at the top, and Leonardo Jardim addressed the title race. According to Coluna Do Fla, he spoke after the match about the challenge ahead.
The result lifted Flamengo to second in the Campeonato Brasileiro on 20 points, six behind the leaders. They also have a game in hand.
Jardim said Flamengo are not alone in the fight, rivals will try to stop them, and every match is a final. He added the focus now turns to the Libertadores, then back to the league.
He said the team must do their job as they did, take another three points and keep climbing the table. They will look after their part and then see what happens with others.
Flamengo now prepare to face Independiente Medellín of Colombia at the Maracanã on Thursday 16, in the second round of the Libertadores group stage, with kick-off at 21:30 Brasília time.
