Flamengo beat Botafogo 3-0 on Sunday in the 25th round of the Brasileirão, after which head coach Leonardo Jardim set out his stance on recruitment at the club.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Jardim said two players have departed and that he advises on profiles to avoid duplication across positions, stressing his job is to coach the current squad while football director José Boto and club leaders handle signings.
The window opened on 20 July and Flamengo quickly moved. They pursued Thiago Almada, who chose River Plate (ARG), and made an approach for Luiz Henrique, but Zenit (RUS) kept the winger.
After those setbacks, Flamengo backed the existing group for the Copa Libertadores last 16 against Cruzeiro, progressing 3-2 on aggregate under Jardim.
The Brazilian transfer window remains open until 11 September, but the Libertadores registration deadline is next Friday, 4 September.
Flamengo have advanced negotiations to sign Anthony Valencia, the Ecuador international forward at Royal Antwerp, who was left out of the Belgian side’s squad on Sunday and arrived in Rio de Janeiro.
Valencia is set to replace Gonzalo Plata, who recently left for Dynamo Moscow (RUS). He had been back-up to Plata for Ecuador at the 2026 World Cup.
Joaquín Freitas, 19, of River Plate (ARG) has also come into Flamengo’s sights, and the expectation is that both players could strengthen the side before the window closes.
