Flamengo head coach Leonardo Jardim will not be on the touchline for the club’s next Libertadores match. After the 2-2 draw with Vasco, the Portuguese voiced frustration over his sending off against Estudiantes (ARG).

According to Coluna Do Fla, the incident left him surprised and quite upset, and it was the first red card of his managerial career.

Tensions rose in the second half. Jardim and Alexander Medina went onto the pitch to calm players, then, after returning to their benches, both were dismissed by referee Piero Maza.

Jardim felt his expulsion was as unfair as Medina’s. He highlighted the opposing goalkeeper pushing Royal and another player using an elbow, said he expected something more serious, stepped in, and was then taken aback by the red.

Flamengo face Independiente Medellín (COL) at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday at Estadio Atanasio Girardot, in the fourth round of the Libertadores.
