Flamengo dismissed Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday three March. Leonardo Jardim is now viewed as the most highly rated option, and his Cruzeiro record is under scrutiny.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Jardim is a priority for the board, led by Boto, and had topped their shortlist even while Filipe Luís remained in post.

Jardim’s most recent role was at Cruzeiro from February to December 2025. He took over after Fernando Diniz was dismissed and oversaw 55 matches, recording 25 wins, 18 draws and 12 defeats for a 56% return.

He did not win a trophy with Cruzeiro. The team finished third in the Brasileirão and reached the Copa do Brasil semi-finals, but missed the Mineiro final and exited the Sudamericana in the group stage.

Flamengo sounded him out during talks to renew Filipe Luís. Jardim was open to conversations, but the club finalised an extension with Filipe Luís at the time and paused discussions.

While they work on an appointment, Flamengo prepare for the Campeonato Carioca final. They face Fluminense at 18:00 Brasília time on Sunday eight at the Maracanã. Globo, GE TV on YouTube, SporTV and Premiere will broadcast the final.
