Leonel Flores, a 19-year-old Boca Juniors revelation, stood out for Argentina in a 4-0 win over Bolivia on Wednesday. The winger is a starter for Boca, who face Vasco in the Copa Sudamericana semi-final.
He played around 15 minutes late in the second half. In that brief spell he sparked the move for Flaco López’s goal, produced neat dribbles and almost scored with a volley.
Flores has made 17 first-team appearances for Boca, with two goals and two assists, and he debuted in the Primera División on 16 July, a day after Argentina beat England at the World Cup.
Flores has become a starter for Boca and operates on the right. He delivered the assist at Morumbis against São Paulo in the quarter-final tie.
Argentina coach Leonel Scaloni said he asks newcomers to reproduce their club form, adding that Flores and Franco Mastantuono, the Fiorentina midfielder, are youngsters who need looking after.
Flores’ display was widely discussed in Argentina. At Scaloni’s request he has been released to rejoin Boca and be available to face Unión on Friday in the league.
