Les Alqueries is in mourning after the death of Miguel Jarque Meneu, a much-loved figure tied to Alqueries CF. The club said in a statement on Sunday that his life was devoted to its colours on the pitch, in the dugout and in the boardroom.
He served as player, coach and director, and was also father and father-in-law to members of the club. In recent times he watched from his chair behind one of the goals, suffering and celebrating every game.
He was remembered as a cheerful presence who lifted those around him, and as a combative centre-forward whose commitment endured beyond the pitch.
He also fulfilled a final wish by meeting his grandson, Miguel Jr.
The club sent its love to his family and friends, naming Candela, Mikel, the team captain, and María José, and urged them to keep alive the joy that defined him.
The farewell pictured him forcing a path through defenders to finish from a corner, before closing with a message that he had fought enough, had earned his rest, and would be sorely missed.
