French players abroad excelled over the weekend, with Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Armand Laurienté back among the goals and Jeanuël Belocian impressing for Wolfsburg.
According to L'Équipe, goalkeeper Thimothée Lo-Tutala earned selection for midweek heroics, saving three penalties as Doncaster Rovers won a quarter-final shootout at Huddersfield after 1-1.
Tristan Crama starred in Millwall’s 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, his side sitting third and three points off Coventry. Konaté impressed in Liverpool’s 3-0 FA Cup defeat of Brighton, while in Spain Florian Lejeune outshone Clément Lenglet in Rayo Vallecano’s 3-0 victory over Atlético Madrid.
Belocian, 20, handled Yan Diomandé well on Wolfsburg’s left, the Ivorian scoring only after a goalkeeper error. The Leverkusen loanee released Mattias Svanberg for the second on 78 minutes, though Brajan Gruda levelled for 2-2 on 88.
Rabby Nzingoula’s first start for Nürnberg brought two assists in a 5-1 win over Karlsruhe. Enzo Millot scored for Al-Ahli in a 5-2 victory against Al Shabab and later described the SPL as tougher and more demanding than many imagine. Adil Aouchiche also impressed for Schalke.
Alan Virginius shone for Winterthur in a 6-1 win, cutting in to score before assisting Chris Bedia. At Sassuolo, Laurienté ended his drought since 14 December and combined with Andrea Pinamonti in a 2-1 victory at Udinese. Bahoya supplied two assists for Eintracht Frankfurt in a 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on his first start in a month, a display that could spark seventh-placed Frankfurt.
