According to Superdeporte, Levante have withdrawn from a deal to sign Atlético Madrid left-back Julio Díaz after two snubs from the player, and he is set to join Sevilla FC.

The move had been agreed for about a week, with all sides arranging a contract signing for Monday. Terms were for a four-year deal and a one million euros fee for 50 per cent of his rights.

Sevilla’s late intervention, plus Díaz leaning a week ago towards Elche despite the Levante agreement, forced the Valencia club to reconvince him. That sequence prompted Levante to close the door.

The signing had first been scheduled for last Wednesday after contracts were drafted and after talks with Luís Castro, and Atlético Madrid also moved in the process. On Saturday afternoon, once Levante learned of Sevilla’s push, they informed the player’s agent they were pulling out, citing a lack of commitment and a preference for players without doubts.

Levante are now exploring other left-back options. It remains to be seen whether Díaz will receive at Sevilla the opportunities that had been forecast for him at the Ciutat de València after a long period of tracking.
