Robert Andrich did not shy away from a frank analysis after Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, acknowledging that his side were second best on the night.

The midfielder pointed to defensive issues early on, particularly from set pieces. “What was missing is that we allowed too many unnecessary corners in the first half. In general, we gave away a lot of good chances,” he said.

Leverkusen’s task became even harder after conceding early in the second half. “We conceded an early 2-0 after the break, and from then on it was very difficult.”

Andrich credited Arsenal’s overall quality and game management. “In the end, the smarter and better team won this game,” he admitted. “Arsenal felt comfortable in every phase of the match.”

Despite tactical changes to push forward late on, Leverkusen were unable to break through. “We made more attacking substitutions and tried again at the end, but Arsenal defended well. Unfortunately, we deserved to go out today.

He also highlighted issues in the final third as a key factor. “Our crosses weren’t precise enough, and we didn’t take shots early enough. In the end, several things were decisive.”
