Bayer Leverkusen appear to have reversed course on Robert Andrich, with sporting chief Simon Rolfes now expecting the 31-year-old to remain days before the window closes. According to BuLi News, the former Germany international had recently been urged to find a new club after Carles Martínez said he would initially have only a minor role.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at newly promoted SV Elversberg in the Bundesliga opener, Rolfes said: “I assume that he will stay”.

Andrich remains under contract until 2028. Over the summer, Martínez removed him as captain, handing the armband to Edmond Tapsoba, and placed him behind several midfield rivals.

He was left out of the matchday squad for the trip to Elversberg, underlining his uncertain status.

The midfielder has been linked with RB Leipzig in recent days, though there have been no concrete talks. Andrich joined Leverkusen from Union Berlin in 2021 for €6.5 million and has made 199 appearances, contributing to 35 goals. He was part of the side that completed the domestic double in 2024.
