Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has caused a stir with a surprise announcement on Sunday, revealing via social media that he won’t return to international duty for Poland while Michal Probierz remains head coach.

Lewandowski had already withdrawn from Poland’s recent World Cup qualifiers, citing physical and mental fatigue after a demanding season.

However, he’s now made it clear that his absence will continue indefinitely unless there’s a change in the national team’s leadership.

The 36-year-old, who remains Poland’s all-time leading scorer (85 goals) and most-capped player (158 caps), previously stated that his decision came after discussions with Probierz and medical staff from both Barcelona and the Polish national team.

But tensions appear to have grown since then, particularly after he was stripped of the captaincy in favour of Piotr Zielinski. Lewandowski has since insisted he won’t wear the red and white again while Probierz is in charge.
