Lewandowski shares his opinion on Barcelona’s blockbuster signing Rodri: ‘The kind of experience this team needs’ | OneFootball

Robert Lewandowski believes Barcelona have added exactly the kind of experience Hansi Flick’s new-look side needs with the signing of Rodri.

The former Barça striker, who left the club this summer after four seasons, was speaking to Radio Marca, where he was asked about the Spanish midfielder. 

Despite beginning a new chapter away from Europe, Lewandowski remains closely interested in what is happening at his former club.

Rather than focusing only on the midfielder’s technical qualities, Lewandowski highlighted the experience and tactical understanding he can bring to Flick’s team.

“He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence. 

“It’s the kind of experience I think this team needs,” Lewandowski said.

Lewandowski went further when discussing Rodri’s career at the highest level, stating,

“He’s a player who has been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now.”

Rodri has established himself as one of the leading midfielders in world football, combining control in possession with the ability to protect his defence. 

Lewandowski’s point is that Rodri’s value will not come from what he does with the ball. 

His understanding of when to push forward and when to provide defensive protection can help bring greater balance to the midfield.

Lewandowski also offered insight into his decision to leave Barcelona after four seasons.

“I had four wonderful years in Barcelona. But there comes a time when you have to do something different, take a new step, and I’m very happy now,” he explained.

The Polish forward has since moved to the United States, marking a significant change after spending much of his career in European football.

He admitted that adjusting to his new surroundings is naturally taking some time.

“It’s normal, not just because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m going to the United States,” he concluded.
