It was a pleasant surprise to see Luke Shaw start every Premier League game for Manchester United this season.
The normally injury-prone left-back defied the odds and joined an elite list thanks to his achievement, with club legend Wayne Rooney effusive in his praise for the Englishman.
However, it would be a mistake for INEOS to place their trust in the 30-year-old for the next campaign, especially with backup full-back Tyrell Malacia set to depart.
A long-term successor needs to be unearthed, and as previously relayed by The Peoples Person, United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox is a huge fan of Newcastle’s Lewis Hall.
His frosty relationship with Eddie Howe and his recent World Cup snub have opened up the possibility of the 21-year-old leaving the Magpies.
However, The Manchester Evening News has poured cold water on the Red Devils’ ambitions of landing the England international.
They have claimed that the team from St. James’ Park will demand a huge fee to part ways with Lewis Hall, and with the 20-time English league champions expected to spend big on revamping their midfield, huge expenditure on the left-back position seems out of the question.
In addition, Newcastle will also prefer not to do business with a direct Premier League rival. Technically, United are back in the Champions League, and nine places above the Toon Army, but to each their own.
“Luke Shaw has started every Premier League game this season, but United have played their fewest matches in a campaign for 100 years, and a deputy is expected to be signed ahead of a return to a more normal schedule.
“Newcastle’s Lewis Hall is admired, although there is an acceptance at United that the Magpies would demand a hefty fee.
“They would be reluctant to lose the young defender to a Premier League rival. Hall is contracted at St. James’ Park until 2029.”
United also have Myles Lewis-Skelly of Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown on their radar. It will be intriguing to see if any addition happens or if Patrick Dorgu is asked to fill in.
