England international Hall was arguably the Magpies' outstanding performer on a disappointing night and hit the underside of the crossbar with a fierce drive as Eddie Howe's men pushed for an equaliser after going behind to Patrick Dorgu's spectacular 24th-minute strike.
Newcastle saw other opportunities go begging, and had strong appeals for a penalty when Lisandro Martinez handled the ball inside his area. However, despite having 66 per cent of possession, they were only able to sporadically test home goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
And Hall admitted that was ultimately what cost the black and whites on the night. Here are some of his post-match thoughts:
"If you look at the goal, it's another goal from a set-play - a throw-in this time, second-phase, shot from the edge of the box. That's something that we've conceded (from) a lot more than we want to this year, whether that be a corner, throw-in, second-phase. That's definitely something we need to look at and improve on.
"First half we weren't quite at our best - I don't think we were poor but we could have done more. Then in the second half, as an overall performance, I thought we played really well. But you know what it's like in football: if you don't create enough chances or put away the chances you create, you're not going to win the game in this league.
"It sort of sums up our season so far."
"I just thought we were in total control of the game. We did create chances, just nothing really clear-cut. We had a lot of shots in and around the penalty area which, on another day, one of them goes in - or three or four of them go in, which obviously changes the scoreline a lot.
"We were really dominant in the second half, whereas the first half I thought was fairly even."
"It's a difficult one to put into words, really, because we've had a lot of away performances where we haven't quite been there, or something's not clicked together.
"I thought today in the second half, everything was going really well; everyone's energy was good, the subs who came on made an impact and the team was playing well. It was just that last bit.
"When (his second-half shot) hits the bar it can easily bounce down and go in. It sums up our luck that it bounces down, comes out, and just a few other things - a few deflections that will go just wide or hit the post. I think in football, you create your own luck, really, so that's something that we'll look to do.
"I feel like we can be proud of the performance that we gave in the second half, but we need to put that into three points."
"There's no point worrying about things you can't control - it's just about what you can control, so that's what we'll be looking to do. We've got a lot of fixtures coming up so we'll be looking to put them right then."
