Hogg's long association with the Terriers will come to an end this summer, and tributes are being paid from his ex-teammates
Tributes are being paid by current and former Huddersfield Town players after it was revealed that Jonathan Hogg's long-standing tenure at the club is set to end this summer.
Ahead of their final match of the 2024-25 League One season this coming weekend against Leyton Orient at the John Smith's Stadium, it was announced by the Terriers that after 12 years, Hogg will be moving on to pastures new.
Hogg has been there through it all, from the Premier League promotion under David Wagner, the rebirth under Carlos Corberan and the unfortunate drop into League One last year, but he will bow out against the O's this weekend, despite still starting pretty often for Town this season.
Having played 37 times in all competitions this season, which will presumably turn into 38 come Saturday afternoon, it's perhaps a surprise to some to see Huddersfield and Hogg parting ways.
At the age of 36 though, Hogg will likely not have many more years left in the game, and the Terriers appear to be heading in a different direction.
Hogg is still clearly highly thought of though within the club, and also with his former team-mates, as he is being showered with plenty of praise after Huddersfield's announcement.
One of those has come from perhaps one of the most talented midfielders to play for the club in the form of Aaron Mooy.
The Aussie lined up for Town between 2016 and 2020, initially on loan before making the move permanent from Man City, and he played with Hogg 90 times in total, so they both knew what each other were about.
Mooy has paid tribute to Hogg by congratulating his "great innings", and he's not the only former midfield partner of the veteran that has reached out.
A Huddersfield academy graduate, Lewis O'Brien is another player that sat alongside Hogg in midfield for a number of years, appearing a total of 92 times at the same time as Hogg.
They were a regular midfield pairing when Huddersfield reached the 2022 Championship play-off final under the aforementioned Corberan, and O'Brien dedicated an Instagram story post to his former team-mate.
It's fair to say that Huddersfield's season hasn't quite gone as anyone at the club would have wanted, although there have been big injury issues and also a lot of upheavel to deal with.
One of the big constants though was that of Hogg, and even though he had periods out of the starting 11, both Michael Duff and Jonathan Worthington have entrusted him to start plenty of matches, despite his age.
With plenty of midfield options under contract for the 2025-26 season and beyond though, perhaps there is now less of a need for Hogg, and his role for the following campaign would have potentially reduced if he would have remained at the John Smith's Stadium.
