Following Sunday’s ambush on the OGC Nice team bus, the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) have released a statement, condemning the reported violence.
As initially reported by Ici Azur, around 400 fans gathered outside Nice’s training ground to express their discontent about the current situation, following a 3-1 defeat away to FC Lorient earlier in the day, with the club on a six-game losing streak in all competitions. L’Équipe, RMC Sport, and Foot Mercato have reported violence, with Nice fans accused of hitting, kicking, and spitting at players and staff. Jérémie Boga, Terem Moffi, and Florian Maurice were the principal targets.
Nice put out a statement on Monday evening, condemning the “unacceptable behaviour” outside their training ground on Sunday night.
Authorities have now reacted to the ambush. The LFP have condemned “totally unacceptable assaults”. The statement added that the LFP would be a civil party in the legal cases filed by the players (Boga and Moffi, both of whom are now on sick leave).
“The LFP expresses its full support to the players involved and to OGC Nice, and reaffirms its determination to guarantee the safety of all actors in the world of football,” concluded the LFP’s statement.
The player union, the UNFP, also responded, condemning the “violence” that Moffi and Boga were subjected to. The union added that it had immediately contacted the two players in order to express its support and communicated that they would be there to help. Like the LFP, the UNFP said that they have the right to be a civil party in the legal cases.
