LFU chief says Corinthians lead TV revenue after league shake-up

In the process of forming Brazilian football leagues, Corinthians decided to leave Libra and join the Liga Forte União (LFU). With this move, it will become the club with the highest revenue from television viewership, considering both economic blocs that negotiated the rights.

“Corinthians also chose to join our bloc and to sell its rights jointly with our group of clubs, which has made Corinthians the club that will earn the most from television rights in Brazil,” said Gabriel Lima, CEO of LFU, to CNN Esportes S/A.

“This is the first time that Corinthians will earn more than Flamengo from TV rights in Brazil. Today, the 80 or 90% of TV rights that each club kept represents more than the 100% they had before the investors came in,” he added, explaining that the measure benefits all clubs.

The idea behind the economic bloc among football clubs is to make revenue distribution more equitable. Previously, companies that bought broadcasting rights negotiated directly with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which decided how to distribute the money. Now, the entities negotiate among themselves.

“The most socialist leagues in the world are the ones that distribute their resources best. That’s not by chance. It’s because it improves the product, because it increases the pie, because it brings more money for everyone. We have to look at it as a product. A better product means stronger clubs, which means more revenue for all clubs. And this will generate more revenue for everyone. It’s not just for the smaller clubs—Flamengo and Corinthians will earn more in this process.”, said Gabriel Lima.

Corinthians has a contract with the LFU until 2029, as signed in July last year. This year, a billion-real deal was made for the sale of broadcasting rights to Globo. In addition, matches are also being broadcast on Amazon Prime, Record, and Cazé TV, increasing the range of options for fans.
