Some of Manchester City’s key Premier League rivals may be handed a significant blow to their summer transfer hopes centred around the future of Liam Delap.
The former Manchester City Academy star has largely become the key striking talk ahead of the reopening of the summer transfer window, having put together a strong start to life at the very top of the game since leaving the City Football Academy.
Delap’s ability to drive with the ball, his deadly eye for goal, and his strength in and out of possession has meant he possesses many traits that almost all of Europe’s big clubs are looking for in a brand new attacker.
And with Ipswich Town faced by the threat of relegation from the Premier League in the final weeks of the ongoing season, many clubs believe there is an opportunity to take Delap from Portman Road on a cut-price agreement.
Those hopes of such an opportunity were only further heightened by reports earlier this week indicating that a £40 million release clause in the player’s contract would reduce to £30 million in the event of relegation for Ipswich Town from the Premier League.
Such terms also coincide with Manchester City holding both a sell-on clause and buy-back option on the striker who left the club only last summer, while many sources have already indicated that the Premier League champion are unlikely to trigger such an option.
But according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, Ipswich Town’s highly-rated and in-demand striker is now considering the idea of a sensational return to the Etihad Stadium.
It is explained that City received an initial £15 million from Portman Road bosses last summer when Delap left the City Football Academy, and were due another £5 million if Ipswich had managed to remain in the Premier League for next season.
Additionally, and in light of reports throughout the course of this week, the same information states that it is only Manchester City who have the option to purchase Liam Delap at the reduced £30 million price tag in the event of Ipswich being relegated to the Championship.
At present, it appears highly unlikely that a player of Liam Delap’s quality and talent would be willing to put regular first-team opportunities aside by joining Manchester City, who bolstered their attacking ranks by signing Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
The Egyptian international was added to Erling Haaland in the striking role but can also operate across the forward line, with the aforementioned Norwegian star expected to remain as the irreplaceable number one up front for the foreseeable future.
The likes of Manchester United – who have made Liam Delap their number one target at striker role for the summer – as well as Liverpool and Chelsea are likely to be monitoring the situation with keen interest, as Liam Delap fields enquiries from across the English top-flight.
