Liam Rosenior has praised Chelsea captain Reece James and believes there are more levels he can go to as a player.
The 41-year-old faced the media for the first time on Friday afternoon after being confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach on Tuesday.
Rosenior will take charge of his first game on Saturday evening away at Charlton in the third round of the FA Cup.
Rosenior inherits a very talented squad, but one that’s low on confidence and currently on a run of one win in the last nine league games.
John Obi Mikel has warned Rosenior he needs to get the more senior players on side quickly, and James would fall into that category.
James has been in superb form this season, both at right back and in midfield, and is a vital part of the Chelsea team.

Enzo Maresca is believed to have fallen out with the medical staff over the amount of minutes James should play, and it will be interesting to see how Rosenior uses him.
James as captain is naturally part of the leadership group, and Rosenior confirmed that group would stay the same as he praised James.
“He’s a very, very good player. He’s a very good player,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“Good players can play in many different positions. Obviously, I’ve analysed the recent games that we’ve played before I’ve come in and I have to say Reece, in terms of his impact on the group, in terms of his performances when he’s been on the pitch, I think he’s growing every day.”
Whilst James is playing to a very high level already and making an impact every time he’s on the pitch, Rosenior believes there are still levels he can reach.

“He’s growing every day and it’s exciting to be working with Reece at this stage of his career now because I think he has levels,” he added.
“It’s an exciting thing for Reece. He has levels that he can go to even beyond what he’s performing now.”
