Enzo Fernandez will not be available for Chelsea’s next two matches after Liam Rosenior left him out of contention.
According to L'Équipe, the midfielder, under contract until 2032, has been suspended by the head coach. He will not be in the squads to face Port Vale on Saturday at 18:15 in the FA Cup, then Manchester City on Sunday 12 April in the Premier League.
At his news conference, the former Strasbourg manager said he had spoken with Fernandez an hour earlier and that the call was agreed with the club, adding that a line had been crossed in relation to what they want to build.
The stance follows a series of public comments from the Argentina international. After Chelsea’s Champions League exit to PSG, 2-5 overall including a 0-3 defeat, he replied that he did not know when asked about his future, and later told an influencer he would like to live in Spain and that he likes Madrid.
Vice-captain and a key figure, Fernandez has played 46 games this season, scoring 12 with 6 assists.
