Despite a big win in the cup on Saturday, the mood is not great at Chelsea. There are major doubts about the manager, who at times looks to have lost the dressing room. And there are even bigger doubts about the ownership, who have certainly lost the fanbase.
One shining light keeping everyone positive is Estevao. The winger was brilliant at the weekend, and is going to be key if Chelsea want to achieve any of their goals in the final weeks of this campaign. He may still be a raw teenager, but he’s quickly become a key player for manager Liam Rosenior, who admitted as much directly after the game.
“We’ve missed him,” Rosenior said on Match of the Day after the 7-0 win.
“He’s been injured for pretty much six weeks in terms of his hamstring, which was a real tough one for us to take. He comes in and just plays. He enjoys playing football and just wants to get on the ball. Wherever he is on the pitch he’s a threat, and he’s going to be a real, real plus for us going into the run-in.”
In the same interview, Estevao spoke about how the other Brazilians at Chelsea had helped him settle in as quickly as he has.
Chelsea have reached a crossroads this summer, and given some of the financial data we’ve seen, there’s an argument that they’re at a lose-lose.
