Andrey Santos (21) excelled at RC Strasbourg Alsace while on loan. The Brazilian spent one-and-a-half seasons with the Ligue 1 side, before returning to parent club Chelsea over the summer.
Liam Rosenior says that his side are “missing” the Brazilian midfielder. The Englishman’s comments come amid a tricky run of form. Whilst Strasbourg continue to perform in the UEFA Europa Conference League, they have failed to win any of their last four Ligue 1 games, following Sunday’s 0-0 draw against FC Lorient.
It leaves Le Racing seventh in Ligue 1 and with a nine-point gap to the UEFA Champions League places. Rosenior sees the absence of Santos, who at times captained Strasbourg, despite his age, as a key element amid this tough run of form.
“We miss him. He was huge on set pieces. Today, there are things that are unacceptable from corners, from free-kicks,” said the Strasbourg manager. Since returning to Stamford Bridge, Santos has made 21 appearances, scoring once and registering four assists.
Rosenior also used his post-match press conference to demand more from his current squad. “My players have to do what I ask, otherwise we will find other [ones],” he said. The pressure is on RCSA’s young squad to step up as the transfer window approaches.
