Libertadores and Sudamericana get under way with strong Argentine presence

The group stage of both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana gets underway this Tuesday, with a strong Argentine presence, including Boca playing in Chile and Racing in Bolivia among the standout matches of the opening day.

After a couple of years without being able to compete in this stage of the tournament, Boca begins its Copa Libertadores campaign full of hope, and every Xeneize dreams of finally winning the long-awaited seventh title.

The first step for the team led by Claudio Ubeda will be away against Universidad Católica of Chile, in Group D, which also includes Barcelona of Ecuador and Cruzeiro of Brazil.

The other Argentine side to appear on opening day will be Independiente Rivadavia, which will begin a historic campaign in the province of Mendoza against Bolívar. Group C is completed by Fluminense of Brazil and La Guaira of Venezuela.

The Copa Sudamericana will also get underway this Tuesday, and Racing, champion of the edition played a couple of years ago, will make its debut against Independiente Petrolero in the altitude of Sucre. La Academia and the Bolivian side are in Group E alongside Botafogo of Brazil and Caracas of Venezuela.

Barracas Central’s participation will also be historic, as in its first-ever international match it will host Brazil’s Vasco da Gama at Banfield’s stadium. El Guapo is in Group G along with Olimpia of Paraguay and Audax Italiano.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s action will conclude with Tigre, which will make its Group A debut away to Atlético Alianza of Peru. The group is rounded out by América de Cali of Colombia and Macará of Ecuador.
