Step back to 1955 with a 33-image gallery from Wolverhampton, the Black Country and Staffordshire, charting post-war everyday life from streets and landmarks to royal visits, sport, local events and the railway.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the gallery is presented in no particular order, offering vivid moments from more than seven decades ago.

One frame shows Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Billy Wright and winger Johnny Hancocks clearing hurdles in sync during a 1955 training session ahead of a trip to Moscow to face Dynamo.

Another image captures the Cross Pistols on the corner of Graiseley Street and Dale Street, pictured in 1955 shortly before demolition. Banks's Ales curved around the facade, with licensee Glen Edward Westbrook named above the door as factories and smokestacks loomed behind.

Further along the same streets, another Banks's house was marked for demolition, a long-time haunt for factory workers, with nearby terraces already rubble before clearance for modern housing.

In August 1955, 54 students from Malaya arrived at Brinsford Lodge near Wolverhampton, aged 18 to 22 and beginning a two-year teacher training programme at the former industrial hostel. Tan Kheng Poh, Khapijah Awang and Khaw Siok Choon were pictured with geography lecturer Miss M Morris, hockey stick in hand.
