Barcelona bounced back from their surprise Liga F defeat to Real Sociedad last time with a dominant display against Deportivo La Coruña. There were also comfortable wins for Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, while La Real prevailed in a five-goal thriller against Espanyol.

Here’s how the latest round of Liga F fixtures unfolded.

Barcelona show no mercy

After losing 1-0 to Real Sociedad on match-day nine, Barcelona made sure there would be no more surprises with a blistering first-half display against Dépor. Sensationally, the Catalan giants racked up all eight goals before the half-time interval.

Vicky López curled the ball in from distance to kickstart the rout, before Alexia Putellas and Mapi León added their names to the scoresheet. Laia Aleixandri then rifled in a long-range shot and quickly added another to register a four-minute brace at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

There was still time in a destructive first period for Clàudia Pina and Caroline Graham Hansen to find the net, either side of an own goal. Barcelona were unable to add to their tally in the second period, but that mattered little as they cruised to a sizeable victory in their final league outing before Saturday’s Clásico.

Madrid giants claim big wins

Barcelona’s arch rivals Real Madrid made light work of their home meeting with Alhama. A 31st-minute own goal handed Las Blancas a narrow lead at the interval. The hosts moved through the gears in the second period to add four more goals to their tally. Academy product Silvia Cristóbal netted her first Liga F goal, before Lotte Keukelaar drilled the ball in at the near post to open her Real Madrid account.

Iris Ashley then got in on the act, towering high to head home from Bella Andersson’s lofted cross. As the game entered stoppage time, Linda Caicedo added a fourth with an impressive solo effort. The Colombia international embarked on a driving run before slotting the ball past Elena de Toro.

Like their city neighbours, Atlético Madrid netted five goals without reply in their away meeting with DUX Logroño. The first half was dominated by big calls from the referee. Atleti attacker Luany won two penalties, either side of Rebeca’s dismissal for a last-player foul. Fiamma dispatched the first spot-kick, before Luany took over penalty duties to net her fourth Liga F goal of the season.

The Brazilian took that tally to five in the second period, working a neat one-two with Synne Jensen to create the space to fire in off the post. Atleti finished the game with 10 players after Gabriela García was sent off between Rosa Otermín and Júlia Bartel’s efforts, but that dismissal did little to dampen the joy of a comfortable victory.

Athletic Club end long wait for win

Elsewhere, Athletic Club finally claimed their first Liga F win of the season. The hosts were given a reprieve when fellow Basque side, Eibar, had a goal ruled out in the first half. Ane Campos broke the deadlock within three minutes of the restart. The former Eibar forward then provided the assist for Ane Azkona to double Athletic’s advantage. As a result of the win, Athletic have moved up to 12th place and four points away from the bottom two.

Real Sociedad squeeze past Espanyol

Real Sociedad secured a third consecutive victory in their thrilling away clash with Espanyol. Lucía Rodríguez hooked the ball in following near-post flick-on from a corner, giving La Real the lead inside three minutes. Espanyol hit back through Paula Arana, whose long-range effort appeared to be misjudged by Julia Arrula.

Unfortunately for the hosts, they could not stop Aiara Agirrezabala from restoring Real Sociedad’s lead just past the hour mark. The youngster showed nimble footwork to get away from a couple of players before drilling a low shot in the far corner. Klára Cahynová headed in a third, which proved too be crucial when Ainoa Campo pulled a goal back for Espanyol. The narrow win leaves Real Sociedad in third spot and four points adrift of the summit.

Levante experience more frustration

In contrast to Athletic, Levante were denied their maiden league win in Sunday’s away meeting with Badalona. A Berta Pujadas handball gave Levante the chance to go to the penalty spot in the first period. Érika González assumed responsibility to thump her penalty out of Antonia Canales’ reach. The visitors appeared to be on course to claim three much-needed points until Lice Chamorro bundled home a dramatic equaliser in the 10th minute of stoppage time. As a result, Levante remained rooted to the bottom of the table with five points separating them from safety.

Sevilla, Costa Adeje Tenerife enjoy away day success

Sevilla picked up their third away win of the Liga F campaign in Sunday’s clash against fellow Andalusian club Granada. Andrea Álvarez produced a diving header from Isabel Álvarez’s far-post corner to score in a third consecutive appearance. Granada’s hopes of salvaging a positive result were quashed by Raquel Morcillo’s first league goal of the season.

Like Sevilla, Costa Adeje Tenerife also picked up a 2-0 win over Madrid CFF on matchday 10. Carlota Suárez tapped in from a rebound after Bernadette Amani rattled the upright, sending the visitors into the break with a slender advantage. Claudia Blanco doubled the lead within minutes of her arrival on the pitch. The substitute took control of a free-kick from the left flank, whipping it over the goalkeeper and into the net. The win ensured fifth-placed Tenerife remain four points adrift of the top three.

Did you know?

Costa Adeje Tenerife have picked up more away points this season than any other team in Liga F. The team from the Canary Islands have collected 16 points from a possible 18 on their travels.

Best Liga F goal of matchday 10

This was a close one between López and Caicedo, but we have given the latter the nod for a sublime solo effort against Alhama.

After collecting the ball in her own half, the Real Madrid star evaded four Alhama players to put herself in a position to slide a composed strike into the bottom corner.
