Barcelona claimed a commanding 4-0 win over Eibar to maintain their 100 percent record in Liga F this season. In contrast to the leaders, Atlético Madrid experienced frustration with an away draw against Espanyol on match-day eight.
There were only six games played across the weekend following two postponements. Valencia’s home game with Deportivo La Coruña and Levante’s meeting with Real Madrid were both called off due to the devastating flash floods in the Valencia region.
Here, we will round up the action that took place on matchday eight of the Liga F season.
Athletic required just five minutes to open the scoring through Ane Elexpuru. The 21-year-old fired a left-footed strike past Noelia Ramos to register her first Liga F goal. Gift Monday produced the Tenerife response, steering an accurate header beyond the reach of Adriana Nanclares. The hosts managed to complete the turnaround in the closing stages of the first period.
Nina Richard squeezed her effort past Nanclares and just over the line to score what proved to be the game’s decisive goal. As a result of the win, Tenerife have moved above Athletic and into sixth place in the Liga F table.
Badalona’s three-game unbeaten run came to an end in Saturday’s trip to Andalucía. The visitors looked set to take a narrow lead into the break when Melanie Serrano lifted the ball into the top corner in the 37th minute. However, they ultimately went on to concede three goals in eight minutes to leave them with a mountain to climb in the second half. Serrano deflected the ball into her own net, before Nana drove a right-footed strike past María Valenzuela.
Ana González slotted home a penalty against her former club to pull a goal back in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately for Badalona, Betis quickly restored their two-goal advantage through Carla Armengol. The substitute scored within two minutes of her arrival, picking out the bottom corner with a neat finish. The entertaining contest delivered one more goal when Cristina Baudet curled her first-time strike into the bottom corner. However, the visitors were unable to find the elusive equaliser as they fell to a narrow defeat.
Barcelona were awarded an early penalty after Ona Batlle was brought down in the Eibar box. Alexia Putellas stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and slot Barcelona into a sixth-minute lead. Vicky López added a second, before Patri Guijarro tapped in from Irene Paredes’ knockdown. After taking an unassailable lead into the break, Barcelona went on to add another goal to their tally in the second period. Batlle collected Putellas’ neat pass, before she slid the ball in at the near post to wrap up another successful outing for the Liga F champions.
Atleti are now four points adrift of Barcelona after they were held to a goalless draw at the weekend. The visitors’ frustrating outing was summed up when substitute Gio Queiroz was sent off in the closing stages. As for Espanyol, they will be satisfied with a point, especially as it moved them out of the Liga F relegation zone.
Real Sociedad’s Nerea Eizagirre opened the scoring in Sunday’s home clash with Madrid CFF. The 24-year-old drilled a low shot out of the reach of Paola Ulloa to net her second league goal of the season. The hosts led the contest until first-half stoppage time when Nahia Aparicio diverted the ball into her own net from Allegra Poljak’s near-post cross. Poljak put her own name on the scoresheet in the 54th minute, slotting the ball into the bottom corner to give the visitors a slender advantage. The gripping encounter delivered another twist when Sanni Franssi restored parity with just over 20 minutes left to play. As it proved, both teams had to be content with a share of the spoils, leaving La Real in fifth and Madrid CFF in 12th position.
Granada provided an impressive display to clinch their second home win of the Liga F season. Alexia Fernández provided a cushioned finish from Laura Pérez’s deep cross to give her side a 24th-minute lead. Pérez then provided another assist for Edna Imade to double Granada’s advantage before the half-time interval. Imade netted her second goal of the game in the opening stages of the second period, sending a downward header past the helpless Yolanda Aguirre.
