Barcelona required two late goals to get the better of Costa Adeje Tenerife on match-day 13 of the Liga F season.

Meanwhile, Madrid CFF were involved in the game of the weekend, running out 5-2 winners against Espanyol. Here’s how the latest action unfolded.

Barcelona fight hard for victory

Barcelona, who are contending with a number of injuries, were made to work for all three points in their home game against Tenerife. Ewa Pajor found the all-important breakthrough in the 84th minute. The Poland international tapped the ball in from Aïcha Cámara’s squared pass to register her 10th league goal of the season. Just moments later, Alexia Putellas volleyed in from Caroline Graham Hansen’s cross to wrap up the hard-fought victory.

Madrid CFF hit five against Espanyol

Madrid CFF claimed maximum points in their away game against Espanyol, largely thanks to a strong finish to the first half. The visitors started the game sluggishly, conceding within two minutes of the first whistle. Malou Marcetto pulled her side level before Hildur Antonsdóttir headed in from a deep corner to put Madrid CFF in front.

The away side stamped their authority on the contest with two goals in first half stoppage time. Bárbara López netted her second league goal of the season, shortly before Alba Ruiz steered the ball in from Romane Salvador’s parry.

Júlia Guerra pulled a goal back within four minutes of the restart to give Espanyol renewed belief. However, a comeback failed to materialise, and the home side’s disappointing outing was compounded when Marcetto grabbed her second goal in stoppage time. The 22-year-old pounced on a poor defensive header to calmly lift the ball over the stranded goalkeeper. Madrid CFF have moved up to sixth spot following a third consecutive win, while Espanyol ended the weekend in 10th position.

Atleti, Sevilla share spoils

Sevilla surged into a two-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes of Saturday’s clash with Atlético Madrid. Raquel Morcillo opened the scoring with a bouncing strike that took a slight deflection. Rosa Márquez then produced a fierce long-range shot to net her second Liga F goal of the season.

Amaiur Sarriegi started the Atleti fightback just before the hour mark. The former Real Sociedad forward poked the ball home from Luany’s low cross. The hosts went on to restore parity through Isabel Álvarez’s 65th-minute own goal. Despite having momentum in their favour, Atleti were unable to push on for a winner. As a result, they remain in fourth spot in the Liga F table, while Sevilla would have been frustrated to miss out on a fourth consecutive league win.

Marín scores match-winning brace

Deportivo La Coruña recorded a second consecutive home win at the weekend. Ainhoa Marín opened the scoring in the closing stages of the first half against Granada. After initially striking the post, Marín showed great composure to collect the rebound and shift the ball away from a defender before rolling it into the awaiting net. The 24-year-old went on to grab her second of the game in the second period to condemn Granada to back-to-back defeats.

Just the one goal will do

There were four games over the weekend that were decided by just one goal, including Real Madrid’s home meeting with Real Sociedad. Las Blancas took a slender lead into the break after Ainhoa Moraza flicked a header into her own net in her attempt to deal with a corner. Real Sociedad saw a potential equaliser chalked off after the referee had ruled there was a foul in the box. As a result of the win, Real Madrid leapfrogged Real Sociedad into second spot in the table.

As for Badalona, Lice Chamorro netted the decisive strike in the 89th minute of their away meeting with Alhama. The striker latched onto Loreta Kullashi’s neat through ball to score her fourth league goal of the season and clinch Badalona’s first Liga F victory since October 11th.

Elsewhere, Daniela Agote’s 68th-minute strike proved to be the difference in Athletic Club’s home game against Levante. The 19-year-old drove inside from the left flank before whipping a right-foot shot into the far corner.  Meanwhile, a Marta Masferrer own goal proved enough to hand Eibar all three points and condemn DUX Logroño to a fourth consecutive defeat in Liga F.

Did you know?

Real Madrid recorded their sixth clean sheet in seven home league games this season. However, that is not quite as good as their rivals, Barcelona, who are yet to concede in a home match in Liga F this term.

For us, Márquez produced the standout goal of matchday 13. The Sevilla star unleashed a powerful long-range effort that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
