Real Madrid continued their fine Liga F form with a dominant victory over Levante at the weekend. Meanwhile, their rivals, Atlético Madrid, have now gone three Liga F games without a win after they were held to a draw by Deportivo La Coruña.

We’ve rounded up the latest action from Spain’s top flight below.

Barcelona see off Granada

Barcelona maintained their 100 percent record with a 2-0 win over Granada. Clàudia Pina squeezed her header across the line to open the scoring in the 52nd minute. As the game entered the closing stages, Kika Nazareth added a second to make sure of the three points. The Portugal international fired past the Laura Sánchez to grab her third league goal of the season. Pere Romeu’s side will head into the international break with a seven-point lead at the top of the standings.

Real Madrid prove four-midable

Real Madrid made light work of Liga F basement side Levante in Sunday’s home clash. Paula Comendador scored the only goal of the first period, before Las Blancas netted three goals in six second half minutes. Sara Holmgaard scored her first Madrid goal with the aid of a deflection. Alba Redondo and Rocío Gálvez then got their names on the scoresheet to round off a commanding victory.

Second-placed Real Madrid have now won five competitive games in a row. As for Levante have lost their last six Liga F assignments and are four points adrift from safety.

Atleti drop points

Atlético Madrid were held to a draw in their away clash with Deportivo La Coruña. Gabriela García scored the opener against her former club, heading in from Lunay’s lofted cross. Dépor were given a boost in their quest for an equaliser when Lauren was sent off for two bookable offences in the 50th minute.

The hosts ultimately made full use of the numerical advantage, restoring through Millene’s 70th-minute effort. The Brazilian raced onto Paula Gutiérrez’s neat through ball, before she chopped onto her right foot to lash a fierce strike in at the near post. Atleti will be frustrated with the fact that they are now sitting two points adrift of the top three.

Espanyol, Madrid CFF and Real Sociedad prevail on the road

After claiming their first win of the season on match-day seven, a rejuvenated Espanyol side picked up three more points in their away meeting with DUX Logroño. Anna Torrodà produced a long-range rocket to score a stunning opener in the 19th minute. Ainoa Campo headed in from a corner in the second half to condemn Logroño to a 2-0 loss. The newly-promoted hosts are still without a league win to their name.

Like Espanyol, Madrid CFF enjoyed success on their travels at the weekend. Hildur Antonsdóttir scored her first Liga F goal of the season to give her side a narrow half-time lead against Sevilla. Andrea Álvarez restored parity within four minutes of the restart with her second goal in three matches. However, Mônica soon put the visitors back ahead from the penalty spot after Emilie Nautnes was brought down in the box. Bárbara López went on to score the game’s final goal to wrap a third win in four games for Madrid CFF. As for Sevilla, the result ended their promising three-game unbeaten run.

Edna Imade continued her red-hot form in Real Sociedad’s dominant win over Eibar. The Bayern Munich loanee opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 58th minute. Imade then got away from her market to head in from Andreia Jacinto’s inviting corner, taking her tally to six Liga F goals for the season. Claire Lavogez added a third in stoppage time to condemn Eibar to a third defeat in four home outings.

A thrilling draw and an underwhelming stalemate

Costa Adeje Tenerife and Badalona produced a thrilling first half in Sunday’s encounter at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez. Badalona’s Lice Chamorro neatly spun her defender to fire home a third-minute opener from the edge of the box. Natalia Ramos pulled the hosts level from the penalty spot, before María Llompart restored Badalona’s lead. The 25-year-old opted to let fly from distance, rifling a powerful strike out of Noelia Ramos’s reach.

Unfortunately for Badalona, they were unable to hold out until the break, as Paola Hernández produced a composed finish to score Tenerife’s second equaliser of the half. The goals ultimately dried up in the second period, ensuring the two sides had to be content with a draw.

Meanwhile, Alhama and Athletic Club played out a stalemate on Saturday. It seemed like a fair result after they both mustered just one shot on target. Alhama will at least be pleased with the fact that they have claimed their first home clean sheet for the season. However, the same cannot be said for winless Athletic, who are sitting just a point outside the drop zone.

Best Liga F goal of match-day eight

Espanyol’s Torrodà takes the prize this week following her stunning strike against Logroño. The 25-year-old picked up the ball from distance before she steadied herself to fire a thunderous effort in off the crossbar.
