There is no doubt about the importance of Robert Lewandowski in Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona team. The Pole veteran is the most reliable striker in the Blaugrana squad, and even at 36 years of age, he is going through one of the best phases of his entire career.

However, his advanced age is still a cause of concern for the Catalans, as they understand that the former Bayern Munich star will slow down sooner or later, and they will have to look for another long-term striker for their team.

For this purpose, Barcelona have been linked with several players, including the Sporting CP striker, Viktor Gyokeres.

Another player who has been linked with the Blaugranes in recent months is Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canadian forward’s contract with the French side is ending at the end of this season, and he is expected to be one of the most in-demand players in the upcoming summer transfer window.

There is currently a lot of uncertainty about David’s future, but as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the position taken by the Lille President, Olivier Letang, about his star forward favors the Catalans if they decide to pursue his signing next summer.

The French club’s President made it clear that they were not looking to part ways with the €45m-rated Canadian striker in January: “We’re not going to sell him in January, and, moreover, we haven’t received any offers for him.”

Further commenting on his situation, Letang went on to say:

“Jonathan’s situation is very straightforward. We’re very happy to have him with us. Last season, he had one year left on his contract. We could qualify for the Champions League, and you have a guy who scores 20-25 goals per season… [He has] an offer in his hands. The ball is in his court.”

Previous reports on the player have revealed that he has already communicated to Lille that he does not intend to extend his contract. Furthermore, he has also shared that he dreams of playing for Barcelona, but the Blaugranes are currently watching him and gathering more information before making a move for him.
