Michael Olise’s popularity in Germany keeps climbing, and it now includes a viral tribute song celebrating the Bayern Munich winger.
According to L'Équipe, radio station WUMMS has produced a track of nearly four minutes in his honour. Olise joined Bayern a year and a half ago and is a France international with 13 caps and 4 goals.
The song mixes humour and appreciation, reflecting how the Bavarian attacker lifts the mood in the dressing room and at training by bringing his own music. It has taken off on social media, with more than 220,000 YouTube views.
Early lyrics praise his skill, saying goalkeepers go down even before he shoots, and that Bayern are steamrolling opponents, thanks in part to him. It describes him drifting right, then left, and pulling off a pirouette because he can.
The chorus asks what Olise is up to, then claims he wins Olympic silver, sets up a goal and scores himself, finishing with a celebration putting a finger to his lips and another to his ear.
One fan likened the number 11’s popularity to Franck Ribéry’s in Bavaria from 2007-2019, adding that since Ribéry only Jamal Musiala had enjoyed a personal song. Last Friday, on Olise’s 24th birthday, Dayot Upamecano took DJ duties at the Säbener Strasse training base, playing Happy Birthday by rapper Naza, a favourite of Olise.
