Lilian Thuram, the former France defender, has joined Teddy Riner and Kylian Mbappé in speaking out against racism and the far right, setting out why he refuses to remain silent.
According to L'Équipe, Thuram aligns himself with their recent interventions and argues that prominent athletes have a duty to warn the public.
Two weeks ago, Riner said the rise of the far right left him anxious and frightened. His stance drew a torrent of online abuse and criticism from elected figures in the Rassemblement national.
Since then, the Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into public racist insults and cyber harassment linked to the backlash he received.
In 2024, during the legislative elections, Mbappé urged young people to vote, warning that extremes were close to power. He repeated the appeal between the two rounds, implicitly targeting the RN without naming it.
