Lille sealed a Europa League play-off berth with a 1-0 win over Fribourg on Thursday, substitute Olivier Giroud converting a stoppage-time penalty. L'Équipe highlighted Hakon Haraldsson as the hosts’ most enterprising presence on his return from suspension.

Early on, Bruno Ogbus repelled a Benjamin André cross on 11 minutes, conceded a free-kick on 17, then halted Fernandez-Pardo with a superb tackle on 20. The Fribourg centre-back went on to dominate, leading touches with 62 and completing 90% of his passes.

Haraldsson embodied Lille’s energy, pressing across the pitch and trying his luck on 23 minutes. Captain André, back from a left-shoulder injury, set the tone with his aggression and constant instructions.

After the break, Junior Adamu squandered openings, failing to capitalise when Ngoy erred with a header on 51 and slicing wide after beating Mandi on 56. Félix Correia improved with a clever pass to Mukau on 56, but delayed a shot on 63.

Fernandez-Pardo then missed after a fine Haraldsson pass on 64, before Ogbus again intervened from a corner on 80. Correia and Calvin Verdonk were withdrawn on 82 for Olivier Giroud and Perraud, and Giroud settled it from the spot on 90+2.
