Lille discuss Martin Terrier as Newcastle push for Matias Fernandez-Pardo, but deal looks difficult | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, Lille have been in contact over Martin Terrier, but Bayer Leverkusen's stance and the club's finances make any deal difficult. At the same time, Newcastle are pushing to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Club president Olivier Létang, who shares a passion for cycling with Terrier, remains in regular contact. He confirmed on Wednesday the loan arrival of winger Dilane Bakwa with no purchase option, and he would like to add the 29-year-old forward before the window closes, as in previous attempts.

Terrier, trained in the North, would welcome a return to Ligue 1. The economics make it hard even for a loan, with his Leverkusen contract running until 2029 and his full salary outside Lille's pay scale.

The pursuit is not hot at this stage, although late windows can always spring a surprise. Since returning from the World Cup, 21-year-old Belgian Fernandez-Pardo has remained intent on leaving, even though he is still seen as Lille's first-choice striker.

Lille will only agree to a sale if two conditions are met, first securing a suitable replacement within their wage structure, then achieving the right fee.

There is less urgency in midfield, where numbers are healthy and the club do not plan to overpay to replace Ayyoub Bouaddi, sold for €100m to Manchester City, even if nobody arrives. Early July moves for Dutchman Gjivai Zechiël went nowhere, and Feyenoord are now closed to his departure.
