Lille OSC president Olivier Létang has received a one-match suspension and a two-match suspended ban from all official functions by the LFP disciplinary committee following his actions and comments made about the standard of refereeing in France during his club’s 1-0 defeat to Olympique Lyonnais on the 28th of September.
According to a report by RMC Sport, Létang reportedly criticised the referees during halftime, before he went before the press and expressed his displeasure publicly. To beIN Sports, Létang stated, “We have a real underlying problem with refereeing in France. We can’t have evenings like this. It’s not possible. I don’t want to just talk about this. Every weekend, in almost every match, there are problems. There’s no discussion, no contradiction.”
The match between Lille and Lyon was particularly bad-tempered, with 46 fouls registered between the two teams, and seven players receiving yellow cards. Lille head coach Bruno Génésio was also sent off for kicking a water bottle, which went near the fourth official’s head.
This is not the first time that Létang has been sanctioned. Last season, the president was given a one-month suspension for grabbing the arm of the fourth official during a fiery Coupe de France victory over Olympique de Marseille.
