Lille OSC have confirmed that they will be taking legal action against some of their own fans, after images of racist abuse circulated online.
There are two alleged incidents. The first pertains to Lille’s away game, against Red Star Belgrade, last week. There were reports of racist chants and insults from the LOSC fans during that game. The second incident came on Sunday, when LOSC travlled to face RC Strasbourg Alsace in Ligue 1. Les Dogues lost the game 2-0 and post-match, videos circulated online, appearing to show racist chants coming from the away end.
Lille have now released a statement, saying that they “condemn the unacceptable behaviour, as well as the hateful comments and racist insults made by certain individuals in the visitors’ section during trips to Belgrade and Strasbourg last Thursday and Sunday.”
The behaviour, the statement adds, is “contrary to the values” of the club. LOSC added that “concrete measures” were taken on Monday morning, and there are now attempts to identify the individuals involved. They added that they intend to pursue legal action against those involved.
